Wow that swag toss to all 8 people that showed up was insane! Sorry Rick but what’s up with those sponsors? They couldn’t have paid money to be there could they?

What is up with the hatred on Thorne?
I actually feel bad that the man had to start a band for therapy because people hate on him for being a character. What are professional BMX riders other than characters though? Sure, we have Ruben, Ross, Reynolds, etc (and I could only come up with riders that have the last name start with “R”, ha) who are insane and maybe could make it professionally just on talent alone. Still, even with them a bit, people buy pro model stuff and support companies with their favorite pros on them also because they like the rider as a person. Why would anyone listen to or read all those interviews or try to dress like their favorite riders if this wasn’t the case??
Rick Thorne is a awesome rider. I mean, I haven’t seen him ride lately, but check out some old pics of him and you will see some real talent. One video I saw of him had him airing absurdly high on this quarter, seriously it was height people rarely match. He is old now though and can’t do crazy stuff. He has to do other things and if you have a prob with that, well, you have a problem with the whole world of action sports because it’s based on the manufacturing of characters! Also, what do you think the pros of today are going to be doing in ten years? A lot of these guys don’t finish school because of riding and don’t have many options. So one should expect Scotty Cramer or Garret Reynolds selling useless stuff to us in the future!

I doubt that. A lot more money is coming into BMX now and if you manage it properly you won’t have to try and sell shit when you get older.

shit-luck. There’s a lot of travelling and some sponsors that look like wads of cash for their teams. But trust me; you don’t get rich that easy. Not rich enough to not have to flip burgers in 10 years if you don’t get any ed. Takes a long and steady career to achive such status. Guys who are too trendy can’t usually last long enough. Dhers’ style for instance really sucks - he does big and fancy tricks to please the unknowing crowds of mainstream events, but hopefully soon this trend of creating trend-superstars will end. Get back to what BMX was about when it was younger - freedom and individuality. Care about your own riding more and passion more than for anyone elses….

Rick Thorne is one of those weird forces of nature in BMX.
Just mentioning his name sets off emotions and expression on both extremes of the fandom spectrum.
Love him or hate him.
Few folks will ever forget him.
You can’t buy that kind of fame/notoriety.
Way to go, KC Local.
