Harborshred is a contest in upstate New York towards the end of July that looks like it is going to be an amazing event. We will be there and are excited to see how the contest turns out, but in the mean time see what Brian Hunt and Harry Main have to say about it.

I have a feeling this whole contest is going to be a letdown for the riders, i rode this park a week ago and it sucks balls, whoever built it was retarded cause the coping bump is shit and all the plywood is ratty and uneven, only the street side is almost rideable

The plywood is only ratty in a few spots and that’s all getting replaced before the contest. The whole purpose of the contest is to raise money for free and low cost parks. Not everyone can afford to pay money to ride and having places for kids is really important to me. If I charged a fee then maybe the plywood would be perfect but not everyone would be able to ride. I am grateful to the riders who are coming out to support a cause I truly believe in! The park does not “suck balls” and the contest is all about having fun. I guarantee the people who come out will have a good time.
I’d like to know of any park in NY that is completely free…I don’t think there are any and that is what makes Freedom unique.

goddessofwheels… you addded me on facebook and of course i lurked all the pics of the park. That place looks pretty fun and it seems like you are putting all the right efforts into it. You seem like an awesome girl! what you are doing for BMX is amazing! keep it up the scene needs more people like you. I live near Toronto so its kinda far to just stop by… but hopefully i will make it out to Freedom one day… also i read something about you building trails? how is that going? sounds fun!

Someone is being lied to. The event that has 200,000 people at it is an hour from this contest. NONE of those people will be attending this event. It’s a drunk mess and nobody will be driving an hour to go watch bmx or anything else in Mexico NY of all places. I think the head count on this contest is about 4 zero’s off of the truth. If you don’t believe me mapquest Oswego NY to Mexico NY

Oswego is 13 miles from Oswego..not near an hour away…unless you are riding your bike to and from…which in that case…maybe. The after party is in Oswego on West 1st Street right in the heart of Harborfest. As for 20 people showing…prob not very accurate. Gosh, I don’t know why people are so negative. It’s not an easy thing to set up a contest like this (especially getting sponsors in this economy). When Harborfest itself couldn’t support the event, I wasn’t going to let the kids down and we moved it to my park. There is something to be said for making the best of things. I tell the kids all the time they can do great things and never accept defeat…so I for one will take my own advice.
If you can set up a contest on a shoestring budget and build and run your own free park, then by all means go ahead. If that was the case I wouldn’t be on here ripping you but rather supporting your efforts. Guess I won’t be seeing you here in July. Sorry to hear that.

I live in Oswego and drive the short 13 miles to Mexico on a regular basis to bring the Oswego Freedom Riders to the park. It takes me 20 minutes, tops.
Freedom Skate/BMX Park is the best thing that has happened for riders in Upstate NY. I am so happy that Harbormess’s squashing of Harborshred didn’t stop Freedom from making it happen.
See you there with the O-town Riders!

Who cares, the park will be fun, all the guys that go will have fun. Riding is about having fun and smiling. Ramps are secondary.
Those two douche bags that aren’t man enough to even leave a reply with a valid name probably don’t even know what a “good” park is anyways. They aren’t riding in the comp, and nobody would want them to ride because clearly, they don’t seem to be people with positive attitudes. They’re just more kids talkin’ smack on the internet. If leaving this reply makes me one of them, whatever, at least I can leave it with my real name.
whoever omg is- how do you know whether or not those guys will be attending? I can most likely guarantee that you don’t know any of them personally. All you do is envy them. Go out and ride.
P.S.- Goddess of wheels- keep it up, you did an awesome job orgainizing this event and it will be awesome!

this is a great idea … the only thnig that will be hard for the pros is that there is no box jump but this park is funn to ride
