true falco. this time in bmx was so sweet. it was the reason why i started riding. and now that bmx has went downhill to where its run by trends and ridiculously dressed people, i no longer enjoy riding with other riders since the majority of them are so lame. its sad to watch something turn downhill like that. probably sadder for the guys in this video who started riding long before me.

I love oldschool riding, but I cant help but see how much of an art its become. This riding is our foundation, the core of us, our roots. Destruction, bails, balls and bravery are what BMX is built, and still rests on, but with the improving skill and devotion, its evolved into something more then just big jumps and wrecking public property.

Its obvious that riding still keeps to the idea of “doing your own thing” and not caring what other sports have said is ‘cool’ or not. We’ve just redefiened what riding is since the glory time of dirt jumps and beer, to an almost civilized sculpture of movement are skill. We’ve come from 10 packs and double rail pegs to triple tailwhips and rail rides. We have somehow done what was impossible not even 5 years ago.

So we can still love our oldschool, but look at all the delicate precision weve fuzed into riding today, and what we strive to create tomorow.

I agree the tricks and money and publicity is great for the sport and nearly everyone in it. But the shit talking and horrible trends have left me more than salty towards anyone who didnt pick up a bike at least 10 years ago. Mirra, Hoffman, Mirron, DMC, and countleass others didnt “train”, they fucking rode their bike. Now its off to woodward to hit the foam and resi so i can learn some ugly ass trick thatll win em’ the dew tour. I’m glad the tricks are progressing, im glad there is money to be made in the sport, but im sick of big bars, riding brakeless, and nonexistent seat heights, just take it off and pad you seat tube for christs sake. look at castillo, his seat is high as hell and he does whips. i try to not get to upset but thats what i grew up with so its sad to see it go so fashion. its practically skateboarding in that sense. but i guess taj, mirra, DMC and the other pros before them are saying the same thing…where did my neon leathers, fullface helmets, mullets, and pad sets go? why are there so many girls riding now but with facial hair and no tits?
