Here's a freecoaster video we did a while back that may help you out a bit.

im tired of people who ride cassettes always acting like they know what there talking about..

a generally good freecoaster will be no more than 3-5 ounces heavier than a good cassette hub. and if the weight is the only thing stopping you from getting one, than you obviously dont even know anything about bmx..

and yes, they do tend to blow bearing more often, notice how i didnt say break..

the only thing you can break is a khe 3 piece axle system..

and maintenance isnt even a big deal, if you going to complain about maintaning your bike, then quite, because you always going to have to..all you have to do is get the old grease out of the axle, driver, clutch, etc..and put new grease on..and basically just check your bearing/axle condition, thats it..

and for everyone who thinks freecoaster or cheating, stfu, yah its easier to roll fakie smoother, but your not thinking about the fact that when you have a freecoaster, you dont tend to do alot of big fakie shit, not just little stuff you do with cassettes..so it still balances out with difficulty..

i like them both, dont get me wrong, but if you dont know what your talking about, then dont say anything

…stay fit…

I can tell you this: maintenance is VERY important! When I was riding cassettes, I could go like 4 to 6 months without even thinking about it (unless of course, if I heard some weird sounds down there)!

But then I switched to a reverse F/C. and THIS happened:

I don't ride pegs and I'm a smooth rider, so I decided to switch the 1-piece crmo axel with the aluminum 3-piece for weight savings.

When I took the crmo axle out of the hub, I noticed a strange “groove” inside the shell, close to the driver's side. Take a look:

http://img157.imageshack.us/img157/4819/reverse2wy0.jpg

That's when I looked at the axel and noticed something weird:

The reverse's crmo (and geisha's aluminum) axel has 2 tiny bolts with a micro bearing inside each, which is pushed by a small spring. (if you have absolutely NO idea of what I'm talking about, watch ridebmx's “f/cs explained” video: http://www.ridebmx.com/video.jsp?ID=1817)

Well, it turns out that one of them got LOOSE! Long story short, the clutch was working crooked (hence the groove inside the shell), the clutch ground down the top of the bolt making a micro knob inside the bolt so now the bearing won't work properly, since it can't get to the correct position!

Luckily, the inside of the clutch is 100%, not a scratch!

Here’s the normal bolt and the “broken” one:

I e-mailed KHE, and they said it's a warranty issue (I bought it no more than 9 months back!), but I had to contact the shop where I bought it. All I needed was a new bolt and bearing, I can rebuild the axle easily.

I'm already riding the aluminum 3-piece axle, and now, after all this, I check it at least once a month!

But do not be afraid, people, I'm certain it was a freaky accident, the reverse rule!

no there not

maybe a poverty freecoaster (27oz) against the new proper casttete (14oz)

but that would be it

a good freecoaster is around 23oz

and a good casttete is around 18oz

and who cares about the weight be a man

They dont do enough, for all the hassle you get. You have to take them apart and clean them all the time. And they are so open to breaking, its just not worth it.

Everyone makes mistakes. The trick is to make mistakes when nobody is looking.

Im sorry to say this but this is not true. The weight part is true but even maintaining them everyday they still dont roll good. They roll decent but not as smooth as a cassette. ANY OF THE FREECOASTERS OUT NOW ARE SHITTY!! They all have the KHE internal and it SUCKS! Wait for Karl Poynter's Shadow Conspiracy Freecoaster or Ian Schwartz's Cinema Freecoaster cause they will have different internal bearings and all that stuff and they WILL hold up! I mean just look at how those guys ride forward or backwards!
