Best BMX bike for $300 plus or munus a bit

I am looking to get me 8 1/2 year old son a BMX bike and have been looking at HARO and Hoffman bikes. He is a novice rider and my budget is $300 give or take some. What bike out there, it does not have to be one I have been looking at, is the best bang for the buck in this price range?

Either one of those bikes are great.  Man what a nice dad. I think an 18in bike is about right for him. I think a 16 is probably too small. A 20 is way too big.


You might want to spend a littlle less and buy yourself a bike as well so you can ride with him. I just picked a bike up this summer so I could ride with my kids. I'm 34. I haven't ridden a BMX bike since I was about 8. I'm totaly hooked. I ask my kids if they want to go to the skate park before they ask me. Even though my kids ride circles around me it's the funnest thing I've done in a long time.
