After a pretty good second chance qualifier and an awesome best trick contest, only half the finals went off before Mother Nature decided to put an end to the contest tonight in Barcelona. Look below for the details, some highlights, and a handful of photos…

The day started off with what they called a second chance qualifier. Basically all the riders who didn’t qualify for the finals yesterday got to ride again for four more spots in the finals. However, half the riders didn’t show up for whatever reason, so there weren’t many guys competing. Ondra Slez, Diogo Canina, Daniel Penafiel, and Sergio Layos all did well enough to get their second chance and made it to finals.

Next up was best trick. It was a 20 minute jam format contest and some of the highlights from it include…
- The winning trick, which was a bikeflip to tailtap to tailwhip in by Michael Beran. Before pulling that one, he also pulled a bikeflip to tailtap to footjam to vader footjam.
- Alex Coleborn worked himself trying to pull a new trick. He has tailwhips to footjam tailwhips pretty consistent, so he was trying to barspin out of that. (Yeah, read that again.) He came super close, but never rolled away from it.
- Brett Banasiewicz pulled a triple downside whip. This was the first time anyone ever pulled one of those in a contest, and may have been the first anyone ever pulled on, period.
- Gary Young did a downside double peg grind across the slanted wallride.
- There are probably more that I’m forgetting, but you’ll have to wait for the video… It’ll be posted soon.

After best trick wrapped up it was time for the finals. There were 16 riders total, and eight of them rode awesome, then it started to rain. We all waited around for several hours to see if it would dry up, but at the end of the night it was still too much of a risk and the riders decided not to chance it. It was decided that the winners of the contest were to be based on how the riders qualified in yesterday’s prelims, which meant Dennis Enarson took the win. However, Ryan Nyquist put together some of the best runs any of us had ever seen before it started raining, and most of the pros were saying he would have won. Wait for the footage of the stuff Nyquist was throwing down…wow.

While waiting out the rain there was a super rad impromptu flatland session on the flat bottom of the park course. Adjacent to the BCN BMX Pro there was a ton of other action sports event under the umbrella event known as the Movistar Barcelona Extreme, including the second stop of this year’s BMX Flatland World Circuit. Spain’s Viki Gomez organized the event (and won it, too), so him and a bunch of other flat riders were sitting in the crowd waiting to see if the park finals would actually happen. Catfish ended up calling out a few of the guys, and before anyone knew what was going on there was an all-out jam circle going down. The crowd (and pro park riders) were loving it.

Once it was decided that the finals were not going to happen, Ben Wallace, Brett Banasiewicz, and Michael Beran put on a quick demo (using mostly the box jump and spine) to keep the crowd stoked. After some bangers were thrown down in the demo, the awards were handed out, again, with the qualifying results from yesterday determining the winners.

So that wrapped up the first ever BCN BMX pro in Barcelona. However, the park course will stay there for the next two months for anyone to ride (for free). Nike stepped it up…so good.

Ben Wallace was the first rider on the results list who wasn’t already scheduled to ride in the Nike 6.0 HB BMX Pro in Huntington Beach next month, so he won an all-expense paid trip to that contest along with a wild card spot to compete against the 19 other riders there.
