Taj just posted a blog entry talking about how bad his back is messed up and what all is going on with it. Here’s a quote:

“It got so bad that I asked Odyssey to stop paying me since I don’t feel like I can ride or produce anything for them.” - Taj Mihelich

Taj, here’s what you should do:

    - Take time off and heal.
    - Plan an epic video part.
    - Execute said part.
    - Leave that part as one last “F— you” to all the haters out there giving you hell about thinking of retiring.

    Just a suggestion. ;)

Taj - I don’t ride anymore but I’m always interested in what you have to say. I had to say something after reading the comments below. From what I know, at the top of your injured back rests a brilliant and creative mind. This itself is a gift most people do not enjoy. I think you should rest easy, you have a bright future ahead whether it involves more incredible riding or not. Be yourself and best of luck taking care of the back! And thanks for all of your insights!

shit man, this scares the crap outta me now!!! lately ive been having similar back problems and its been doing the same thing to me when I ride. i cant hold manuals at all now, i can still kinda jump, and pumping ramps hurts alot! i just stopped riding like a week ago and im hoping i get better now since i saw a chiropracter.

I wish you the best of luck man, I hope something turns up to fix your back or something, having to put your bike down is probably the hardest thing for any bmx rider!! BEST WISHES TAJ!!

    Hey Taj-

I’m in my early 30’s and I’ve been a fan of your riding since the mid 90’s. I had to drop out of riding (and a lot of other things) back in the 90’s because I had horrific lower back problems. Not long ago I started riding again after going through a rehab process. I’m in better shape now than I was 10 years ago. You just have to believe and stick to it. It WILL work. Most of the time there’s nothing wrong structurally, it’s just that the muscles aren’t firing correctly.

Also…and this goes to the other dudes who left comments, too…sometimes BACK pain comes from the FRONT being out of shape. Make sure to do tons of ab work and stretch out your quads. Also deep lunge stretches and weighted lunge exercises have helped me like you wouldn’t believe.

    Keep your chin up, Taj!
