Press Release:
Top Street Riders Garrett Reynolds, Van Homan and Sean Sexton to Captain Teams
Burr Ridge, Ill. – June 4, 2009 – The Dew Tour today announced the roster of nine athletes who will ride in the first ever Nike 6.0 street specialty competition, taking place at the Nike 6.0 BMX Open, June 26-27 in Chicago’s Grant Park, adjacent to the Taste of Chicago. In addition to the street specialty competition, the Nike 6.0 BMX Open will feature BMX park, vert and dirt disciplines that are staples of the Dew Tour.
“Nike 6.0 is very excited to bring a street competition to the Dew Tour and invite another sector of BMX riders to participate. We want to put on a high-level street event that the riders are stoked to be part of and that showcases the essence of street riding and BMX to a broader audience.” said Bastien Renard of Nike 6.0.
The street specialty competition will consist of nine riders divided into teams of three with one filmer per team. Based on their X Games 14 podium finishes, Garrett Reynolds, Van Homan and Sean Sexton were named team captains of the street specialty competition. As captains, each hand selected their two other teammates for the contest. Reynolds chose JJ Palmere and fellow Nike 6.0 rider Dennis Enarson, while Homan selected Randy Brown and Chase DeHart. Sexton opted for Aaron Ross and Danny Hickerson.
“I’m psyched about the street comp,” said Garrett Reynolds. “Riding and filming with my friends is what BMX is about for me. It’s the best part of street riding so I’m stoked on everything about this contest. I can’t wait to see the course Nate Wessel designed—he always builds great stuff.
Each of the three teams will have designated filming time on the Wessel-designed street course, which includes stationary objects as well as pallets, picnic tables, and other objects that they can manipulate as needed. The teams will ride the obstacles while their filmer gathers footage to be edited into a three-minute video.
In addition, the three teams will go head-to-head in a 20-minute jam session that will take place on June 26. Judges will rate the jam session as well as the video part, combining the two scores to determine the winning team. A standout rider will also be selected based on their performance in the video and the jam session. The winning video and highlights of the street competition will be aired on NBC as part of the Chicago Dew Tour coverage on Saturday, June 27th 2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. EST. Fans can also check out the full three-minute videos from each team on allisports.com.
