Skatepark Protest In Tucson, Arizona

BMX riders are facing an injustice forced upon them currently in Tucson, Arizona . Two years ago the city of Tucson Parks and Recreation department initiated a project for a publicly-funded skatepark that had been in development for almost ten years. Without updating the proposed plans or truly listening to the needs of the community, Parks and Rec. decided to build a public “skate” park that would exclude BMX bike riders altogether.
Kory Laos, a young Tucson teen was struck and killed in May of 2007 by a vehicle while riding with his friends on the streets of Tucson. Kory’s father Scott truly believes if there was a safe place for BMX bikes to ride, his son would still be alive today. The Tucson BMX community is very disappointed with the city for not allowing BMX bikes in the new park, or providing a safe, legal place for bikes to go.
Sunday, June 28, at 11am the BMX bike riders of Tucson, Arizona, are standing up for what is right, and for what is desperately needed within our community. Please join us as we parade through downtown and protest at the new park, in hopes we will have a place to ride for the future.
Thank you,
Mike Hines

PROTEST until u win… Why are people so against providing a place for our kids to have a safe place to ride and the parents can feel at ease knowing where their kids are riding? If it were baseball or soccer would there be any question?? I agree with George, ROCK ON!

i am against bmxers in skateparks because i am a rollerblader and know that bikes are dangerous to skateboarders nd rolelrbladres, i personally saw a bmxer hit a 7 year old skater. he was knocked unconcsious nd we called 911. we know he suffered head trauma. its like mixing cars with motocross, its just not done

i agree with that person. and with the city of tucson, what if ur kid was a rollerblader and died getting hit by a biker in a skatepark?? u would feel soo much different about all of this
