Nigel kept it in the family and worked on the design with one of his my managers at LTD+, and legend in the sneaker game, DJ Clark Kent. “We worked on my last G-Shock watch together around the same time we designed this dunk so I went with the same color scheme” says Nigel, “I feel these colors and textures truly represent me as a person and a BMX rider.” This shoe incorporates the SB Dunks rugged and functional properties needed for a BMX rider and crosses them with luxury materials and simplicity reflecting Nigel’s persona tastes. For instance, instead of using a regular black suede, Euphoria Nubuck, which is only used on Nike Bespoke Air Force Ones, was chosen. “I feel the black Euphoria really sets off the sneaker because it lined up perfectly with my vision of a luxury material thats also functional” Nigel explains, “it feels great to the touch and automatically separates this Dunk from other releases.” The safari print is classic as well as one of Nigel’s favorite prints as well as a nod to NYC being a concrete jungle. The sticky gum outsole is an ode to the streets of NYC (which are covered in gum) plus it’s an incredible gripping material for his bike pedals.
Nike sponsored athlete Nigel Sylvester teamed up with the brand for the first ever retail release by one of their BMX riders. The Nike SB Dunk High consists of a all black Euphoria Nubuck upper with Nike’s classic Safari print on the eyestay and collar. The all white midsole sits atop a gum outsole, and to finish them off the insoles contain Nigel’s signature on the right and S.O.M.P (Standing On My Pedals) on the left.
The Nike SB Dunk HIgh PRM SOMP releases Saturday, March 8th at select Nike SB Retailers including Brooklyn Projects (LA) and Dave’s Wear House (NYC).
