Mike Spinner Now Riding For Hyper

After being let go from Mirraco earlier this year, Mike Spinner has now signed a mult-year contract to ride for Hyper Bicycles who specialize in aluminum race frames.
Hyper has been around for a long time in the race scene and obviously plans to break into freestyle BMX by using Mike Spinner to promote their name. It will be interesting to see what kind of products Mike helps design and how the brand evolves and transitions into freestyle.
Judging from what is on their site, Hyper is into the big televised events because they are a sponsor of the UCI race series that is featured on NBC, so it seems fitting that their first freestyler rider will no doubt be on television a lot this year throughout the Dew Tour series.
Hyper also makes department store bicycles, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Mike Spinner’s name and likeness appeared on some bikes at Walmart or Toys ‘R Us. It would be great to see more decent bikes pop up at mass retailers, so hopefully if that happens with Hyper Spinner can help lead them in the right direction to get younger kids riding more.

another dark day for pro sponsorship, i just checked out “hyper bikes” site and it doesn’t look good, he might be better off riding the frame he has now and just putting hyper stickers on it. anyway good luck to mike

I went on the Hyper website and no mention of Mike riding for them. But I did see John Parker’s name there, but no bio on him. Just bio’s of the race team. Could be worse. He could riding for Huffy like those guys did 10 years ago.

Also, remember when TJ Lavin got on Schwinn. They didn’t market him at all it seemed, and you don’t hear nothiing of TJ anymore. TJ went from from big name riding for Specialized, always in RIDE to nothing these days.

Dear Mike Spinner. Congratulations on your sponsorship. You have now officially comprimised your own reputation for riding for a company that has no reputation. There is no shame in picking up a sponsorship of any kind unless it be from a company such as Hyper. You were better off with Felt. Oh wait, that was the other miracle of BMX, Scotty Cranmer. Too bad dude, best of luck, hope you dont fall too hard when you get dropped on your head again.

We got these internet “gangstas”. I mean seriously i’m going to set it straight. Either way whether he is riding for hyper, haro, mirraco, etc etc he still gets a pay check to ride. He still gets payed for doing what he loves. Hyper is not bad shit. I like how people say there walmart bikes? They make race frames and race bikes. If thats not your gig dont talk trash about it. Respect all forms of riding. This might be hypers attempt at making a name for the company on a street/park line of bikes, frames, and components. He probably has good reason for doing what he did so why knock him? Props to spinner for doing something different in bmx and props to Hyper for letting him do so.

This is kind of like scotty cranmer being on felt. Felt specialized in racing and mtb then all of a sudden they signed a bmx superstar (scotty cranmer). Now all the kids, at least here in nj ride felts.

you cant put scotty in the mix with spinner. they are total opposites in my opinion. scotty is a natural talent and spinner is a product of foam and resi box jumps. scotty is an all around great rider, he can do anything and ride anywhere, spinner……hes got a couple crowd pleasers, thats about it. with all this said, i think scotty is more respected than spinner making felt a lot more respected because they picked up a rider who can shred anything, a real rider.

Wo! Wo! Wo! Hold on there kid. No doubt Scotty is talented as hell if not more talented than any american bmxer. Just cause we haven’t seen a video of Scotty on a resi doesn’t mean he doesn’t use it. However you’re shiting on a lot of pro’s who have used the resi. Spinner does have a fan following like Scotty. So maybe this will work out for him, and kids will be riding Hyper’s if they make a good product. Time will tell.

Good for Mike. Its funny how a good company like Hyper picks up a rider and people try to dog him and the company. New blood in the sport can only expand things and bring more dollars to the riders. Some of you need to grow up.
