We just got word that Chad Kagy is off DC Shoes and he promptly sent us over a statement… Here’s what he had to say:
“Got off the phone with DC shoes not long ago and due to budget cuts and the reallocation of funds and effort toward the core of their company (skate) they will not be renewing any contracts that are expiring this year in the other sports they work with. Since I’m the only BMX guy on the team with a contract expiring, I will be the only guy leaving the team. Rough budgets make for quick changes all around. It was a good 9 years with DC and I wish them all the best in the future.” - Chad Kagy
We also reached out to DC to get a statement from them. Here’s the response we got:
“Parting with Chad was a difficult business decision because he has been with the DC family for almost 10 years now. To support DC’s strategy of a renewed focus on skateboarding, we had to make some tough decisions regarding our athlete rosters in other categories. We wish Chad all the luck in the future and thank him for his accomplishments as a DC athlete and ambassador. DC remains committed to the BMX team, and the continued growth and progression of the sport.” - Brian Cassaro, DC Action Sports Director

maybe if dc didn't make fuck ugly shoes they would still be relevant and be able to support sports besides skateboarding. it would be great to see some solidarity among their bmx riders by all of them leaving because of dc's bigoted decision. good luck chad.

Wow! Chad was all about DC and they just let him loose like this? Budget cuts? Economy must be really boggin' them down because Chad is a first rate rider and dude. Definitely somebody that you would want on your team. He'll still be just as badass without DC though. Good luck Chad!

How are they going to remain commited to bmx when they let someone like chad kagy go? They are not commited to bmx and I personally will not buy another pair of DCs. You can bet money that they are going to drop the rest of the team as soon as they can. The reason that they will do this is because bmxers will still buy their shoes even if they don't sponsor anyone. BOYCOTT DC!
