Press Release:
Newly completed construction on BOB gives Windells campers the biggest and coolest indoor skate/BMX facility in the Northwest
MT HOOD, OR – May 2009 –Windells has completed construction on its one-of-a-kind indoor recreation facility on Mt. Hood this week. The Building Out Back (aka BOB) gives riders and skaters a state of the art venue to practice 365 days a year and a refuge from the elements. The 15,000 sq/ft indoor skate and BMX park is the biggest of its kind in the Northwest.
Which is one of the reasons why espn.com reporter Brian Tunney recently filmed a BMX session at Windells Building Out Back with top BMX riders like Jeremy Davis (of Blueprint fame,) Roman Tenzca, Travis Gardner, Steven Boldt, Travis Scribner, Austin McCabe and Caleb ‘The Hucker’ Ruecker.
BOB’s new features include a 75 ft mini ramp and street course. An Olympic size trampoline and giant foam pit provide riders with the opportunity to safely work on new tricks and maneuvers. “This place is an incredible facility for training, for fun and for filming and its another reason Windells is the funnest place on earth,” says owner Tim Windell.
The new renovations were completed for the spring and summer sessions and compliment an already 28 acre campus. Besides BOB, Windells offers an outdoor street course, BMX dirt tracks, a concrete bowl, concrete spine ramp, a demo shed full of next years products, paintball, a NIKE Video Editing Lab, ping-pong, a basketball court and of course a snack shop.
Campers can stay overnight or just attend the weeklong camps daily. The camp includes instruction, food, prizes, supervision, video review camp activities and more. To register, go to www.windells.com.
Founded in 1988 by nine-time National Champion and two-time Vice World Champion snowboarder Tim Windell, Windells has been a world leader in action sports for the past two decades. The camp’s goal is to not only improve kids’ skills on the slopes and on the street, but also create a fun and safe place for kids to creatively express themselves through sport. From building permanent half-pipes, cheese wedge jumps to creating new moves and fighting scoring regulations in competitions, Windells has been a pioneer in action sports. Windells is also the world’s only privately owned campus and features a permanent, year round half-pipe and ski runs as well as BMX dirt bike paths, indoor skate park with foam pit and on-site housing and accommodations for campers. For those who have been there, Windells is known as the “funnest place on earth.”
