Press Release:

On Memorial Day several BMX riders joined ARF in the first annual 21 mile BMX ride of the LA Marathon.  BMX OG’s like Mike Dominguez, Bryan Blyther, Eddie Fiola, Dave Voelker, Woody Itson, Xavier Mendez and more got up earlier than they ever did for any contest in order to make the 5:00 start time!  It was super cool that many of their kids came out to ride in the event as well.

The purpose of the event was obviously to have a good time but also to raise some money for Athlete Recovery Fund in the process.  Thanks to the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino we even put up a prize for the person who was able to bring in the most pledges.  All together the riders who brought in pledges were able to raise $3,354 to support the cause!

After a couple weeks to collect the pledges the man to raise the most money for ARF was Etnies TM and BMX legend in his own right John Povah!  John will be enjoying a two nights stay in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, entry to the night club “Wasted Space”, spa package at “Rock Spa” (the idea of Povah at a Spa is completely hilarious) and dinner for two at their new steak house “Rare 120”!

Special shout out to Xavier Mendez who came in a very close second place for pledges and for without his idea and hustle this event would not have happened.  Hope to see you next year!  We had a ton of fun this year and are already working with the LA Marathon to be on their approved list of charities for 2010!
