Today marks the 10 year anniversary that Odyssey started manufacturing their products in 41 Thermal.

“41-Thermal ® is the 4130 chromoly manufacturing process that starts at the design stage, carries on throughout manufacturing, and is only completed when we reach the finishing steps. There are an endless amount of variables to fine tune, and every action along the way counts and matters.”
“2009 marks 41 Thermal’s 10-year anniversary, and the process continues to evolve and change along with the products which proudly carry this famously trademarked name. Other companies have attempted to write the process off as a “gimmick” or they’ll say, “it’s just heat-treating.” The truth however is that nothing has revolutionized the manufacturing of chromoly BMX forks, bars, cranks and frames in the last 20 years like 41-Thermal has.”
“We pioneered it, developed it and continue to perfect it, never at the mercy of feebly asking manufacturers to do “whatever that other company is doing.” Our lab and ride testing is methodical – constantly striving to make the process better through continuous experimentation and true engineering.”
“41-Thermal products are backed by years of research and development, and they have always been fully supported by a lifetime warranty. In 2009, nobody else can make that claim, or even comes close to it.”

The only thing not Odyssey on my bike is the Macneil frame and S&M bars. They are one of the very few companies that actually have a legit warranty that they actually honour without hiding behind the term “manufacturer’s defect”.

The scary thing is I remember when 41 thermal was new, I’d been riding for a few years then! I’m pretty sure Odyssey had just got Vic Murphy on the team, which seemed odd at the time cos as i remember Odyssey had a pretty weak reputation as a parts company where as now they’re pretty much top dogs! That’s what a bit of material science, engineering and a good media representation can do for you.

Not the only lifetime warranty company but a good process yes. What exactly is this thermal heat treating process? The world may never know…
