2nd Annual Trans Jam BMX Contest to Commence in Uptown Charlotte July 30
BMX Riders from around the world will compete for $2000 and a stash of prizes
July 26, 2011 (Charlotte, NC)–The streets of uptown Charlotte will come alive with high-flying BMX action on Saturday, July 30, as Maxxis Tires and Hickory Tavern present the 2nd Annual Trans Jam BMX Contest. Taking place on the corner of South Tryon Street and West 3rd Street, the contest is being held in conjunction with the Presbyterian Hospital Novant Health Invitational Criterium bicycle race. Local Charlotte restaurants Hickory Tavern and Char Bar No.7, as well as SportClips Haircuts will play a large role in supporting the contest for their hometown.
Guests are welcome to attend the contest for free and witness today’s top BMX ramp riders and flatlanders performing bicycle stunts high in the air and also on the ground. Beginner, amateurs, veterans and professionals alike will compete for a variety of prizes in addition to a monetary purse of $2,000 to be split between the Pro Classes of both the Park and Flatland disciplines. First place will receive $500, second place is $300, and third will take home $200.
New for 2011, Park riders can compete in a Best Trick Contest for a cash prize. In addition, Trans Jam will include a Vintage Bike Display, sponsored by Pork Chop BMX, and those participating will have the opportunity to partake in a raffle for the many prizes Pork Chop is providing, including the grand prize of a Land Race frame and fork. All proceeds from the raffle will go to the Mike Vincent Fight for Sight Fund, to help BMX rider Mike Vincent, who was injured in an accident that took his eyesight.
Registration will open at 8:00 a.m. for those wishing to participate in the contest. Trans Jam will begin at 10:00 a.m. and continue throughout the day until approximately 8:00 p.m. or until a winner of each class is determined. For a full schedule, go to www.transjambmx.com.
