What a dope event with a good vibe, and in a an epic setting. The finals were as good as I expected them to be with one major bummer. Dennis Enarson, who was by the favorite to take the win, had another fall before the finals and decided it was a good time to call it. As much as it would have been great to have Dennis out there, it’s best to keep it safe and we all know that Dennis has absolutely nothing to prove at this point. The dude is the best. But, with Dennis gone, the win was pretty much wide open and the 14 finalists had three runs with an overall impression being the only thing that matters. So basically, this meant that the riders with basically one line didn’t do as well as the guys that could drop in for a second time and ride the bowl completely different. In the end, it was clear that the judges we’re hyped on that along with the idea of bringing something a bit unpredictable (aka, not what you’ve been doing all weekend) and gave Gary Young the win. Here’s the full results and a gallery with over 40 images (forgive ‘em, I was pulling double duty trying to film fisheye for the edit that will be up shortly, too). A sincere thanks to the people at Vans for bringing a truly unique event back for the second year in a row. Can’t wait til next year!
