Two Gary Young Sequences - Not Quite Vans Ads: May 17, 2007

I just so happen to have two amazing schools right down the street from my house. So one typical day, myself, Gary Young, Brandon Turner, and Tom Zetz were riding one of said amazing schools. I think we filmed a clip or two when Gary decided he wanted to go across the street to a miserably boring elementary school. So I’m like, “Yo man, there’s nothing there. It totally sucks. And Gary is like, “No way, there’s this like thing I want to do. You, like, want to shoot a Vans ad? So I’m like, “Yeah, that’s like free money. Let’s, like, get this done. Gary then goes on to briefly explain that the ad needs to be a seamless sequence—you know, one photo and multiple little Gary’s kickin’ ass all the way through it. He doesn’t really tell me much else, so I get my little digi-cam out and set up completely perpendicular to this uprail/handicap ramp while Gary sets up a picnic table. In hindsight, it probably wasn’t the most exciting angle (okay, it definitely wasn’t), but there wasn’t exactly space to shoot at a near-straight on angle and I wanted to make it as simple as possible…and I figured, hey, Vans can crop it if they really need to. Needless to say, Gary did two pretty damn wild moves and we ended up shooting something different for the ad. At least you guys get to enjoy it.
