Wow, wow, wow! In a bit of a surprise turn of events today, Ryan Guettler took the win right from under the other eight competitors vying for that $10,000 first place finish today in Huntington Beach. Check out all the final results right here along with our last day’s recap of highlights and our finals video!

After three days of accumulating points, and one day of finals, I think it is safe to say that every single person at the BMX contest this weekend had an amazing time. All the riders couldn’t stop raving about what a great event it was. Having the ocean as a backdrop, being surrounded by beautiful women in bathing suits, and enjoying the perfect weather made what would have been an ordinary contest course feel like paradise.

All eyes were on Scotty Cranmer and Daniel Dhers today as they had taken the wins the previous days, but when it came down to it, Ryan Guettler’s action-packed runs with gnarly tricks and huge transfers proved to be what the judges were looking for.

Here’s a quick rundown of some of today’s highlights…
- Diogo Canina once again rode in shorts and a T-shirt with no pads and did a 16ft flair transfer. However, today he 360ed the driveway right before said transfer.
- Marcus Tooker seems to have bikeflips dialed, but after crashing on one yesterday he opted not to do one today and did a backflip barspin instead. He also 720ed the spine and the box backwards.
- Craig Mast had a go big or go home attitude and went for a 1080 after landing a triple whip. He crashed on the 1080, so in his second run he played it a bit more safe and did his signature 360 tailwhip, catching it in a can-can.
- Allan Cooke fired out his two big transfers again, but didn’t really bring any new heat today, so he fell behind his competitors as they all brought something new to the table.
- Garrett Reynolds did the same run as he’s been doing all week including back to back to back tech tricks with lots of fast barspins everywhere.
- Scotty Cranmer started out his first run with a huge flip double whip into a flair, but an alley-oop flair where he had been doing a lookback caused him to crash. He had a good second run, but it just wasn’t quite clean enough to get him on the podium today.
- Mike Spinner triple whipped the long box again and did another 1080 into a triple whip on the quarter. In his second run he went for a quad whip and stomped his leg down really hard and was on the ground for a while. He says he should be good in a week or so, but for now he’s taking it easy.
- Andy Buckworth did all the original tricks he’s been doing all week including 360 double downside whip, huge flairs, decade airs, and backflip handplants over the spine. However, today he added a no-handed frontflip and a backflip turndown over the long box to give him the extra points needed to get on the podium.
- Daniel Dhers crashed in his first run, then in his second run he brought out his second new trick of the week. Yesterday he did a 360 backflip tailwhip (although not pulled perfectly), and today he did a “cash roll.” He landed on the deck and took a foot off, but hopefully we see this one pulled clean at the Dew Tour in Portland next month. It is basically a 180 backflip to 180 backflip, all in the air. Check the video…it’s hard to explain.
- Then there was Ryan Guettler… If Daniel had landed the cash roll perfectly, he may have won, but it still would have been close. Ryan Guettler did several huge transfers that gave him an edge over Daniel since Daniel didn’t do any big gaps or transfer lines. Guettler rode amazing and definitely deserved the win. Check out his 95 point run in the video below!

As promised, we will have an amazing photo gallery of hot chicks from the beach up first thing in the morning. Check back when you wake up…you won’t be disappointed! Also, if you liked this coverage, stay tuned because next week is X Games 15 and we will have tons of coverage from the biggest contest of the year!

From the Judges Tower: A True Story By Contest Leigh Ramsdell III From Day 4, Final Day Of Competition

The finals are something you never want to miss. And being a judge I have to say that we have the best seats in the house. There were ten guys to watch and we knew this was going to be a great event. The four judges-Dave Brumlow, Clay Brown, Christian Rigal, and myself-waited for to Catfish to drop the first rider. When he did, it was on!

I’m now going to give you the standouts of the ten finalists in the Nike HB BMX Pro.

10th: In the 2nd place qualifying spot, Diogo Canina had problems in his first run and had to rely on his second. He started off with a 360 over the big wedge-to-wedge straight into a huge, craving flair from quarter to quarter. He ended his run trying to truck the box backwards and ended up in a pretty nasty crash. Diogo is a beast, though, and got up.

9th: Marcus Tooker has been making moves in the pro class. We’re seeing him in a lot of finals these days. What else would you expect with 720’s over the box backwards and trucking the big box. In his second run he tried a huge 360 transfer but had to bail out of it early.

8th: Another rider that we’ve been seeing regularly in the finals is Craig Mast. A 1080 gone wrong in his first run meant everything would ride on his second. In that run he pulled a perfect triple-whip over the box and a front-flip-flair on the quarter. But the coolest thing was his 360-tailwhip-to-can-can.

7th: Allan Cooke was really fun to watch with amazing lines and flow. He was the first one to throw down a big tailwhip transfer from the big box lip to the spine/bowl quarter. His fast riding and great style got him into seventh.

6th: Known for destroying the streets, Garrett Reynolds came out and showed the park course what was up and gave the judges a real test to see how fast they could take notes. He does so much back-to-back stuff like a 360-no-hander over the big wedge-to-wedge straight to a 540-barspin-no-hander. Garrett is really fun to watch.

5th: Scotty Cranmer came out swinging with a double-tailwhip-backflip, double-whipping the big box with ease, and front-flipping that monster, too. It’s so good to see Scotty back to his old self. I can’t wait to see more of him at the next contest.

4th: The big box jump was where Mike Spinner started his run-he triple whipped it! Mike also triple-whipped the quarter and 1080′d the box jump. In his second run he went for a quad-whip and fell and hurt his knee. I saw him a little later and he seemed to be all right.

3rd: You will be hearing a lot more about Andy Buckworth in the near future. He has the moves to stay in the top like double-downside-360-tailwhips, decade airs, huge front-flips over the big box jump and backflip-handplants over the spine. Andy has a great attitude and style to do great this year.

2nd: The man everyone wanted to beat ended up in second place. Daniel Dhers’ runs were packed with the hardest things you can imagine; 720-barspin, no-footed-can-can-to-tailwhips, double-whips, truckdrivers, and 720’s over the big box and flip-whips. The trick of the day was his Cash Roll. It was a 180 then you do a flair over the box jump. It was crazy! He landed on the deck but it is insane!

1st: Ryan Guettler is on top of his game. He flowed the course and had the bag of tricks to go with it. When you start with perfect double-flips then go straight into a flair-whip you know you have a great start. Add a no-footed can-can flair, double-whips, a big tailwhip transfer, and a turndown-360 over the box backwards plus more?you can bet you have a run that will be hard to beat. Ryan earned a well deserved first.

This was an amazing event and I hope it happens again next year. I’ve never seen so many bikini’s watching a contest before!
