Modifications/Other/Extras:
Intergalactic paint job, took all the pins out of one side of the right pedal, trimmed the steerer tube on the forks.

You’ve had some memorable paint jobs, like the taxicab inspired one, and now this splatter effect you’ve got going on. Do you have a lot of free time on your hands, or do you just like unique paint jobs?
I definitely like my bike to be distinct. Every now and then I think of something that would make a good paint job and go for it. Some turn out cool and some get stripped the next day. The splatter paint was inspired by an album cover for a Flaming Lips album, even though it came out nothing like it. I had another bike that was painted like the Arizona flag—that one was my favorite.

I remember Smoker Dave used to run half of an old tire inside his tire to avoid flats from all of those nasty thorns on the ground in Phoenix. Have you ever taken similar precautions?
It really isn’t as bad as you would think. I guess after riding out here for so long I have just developed an eye for thorns and stuff. A few months ago I started to carry a back up tube just in case and it is still in my backpack so I guess I’m doing ok.

You were on a crankarm grind binge the last time you came out to California, how’s your bike holding up from that?
I swear I don’t do that trick that often, you just kept taking me to golden crankarm grind setups! Most of the grinding is done on my pedal so it really isn’t too destructive.
