Describe your bike setup and how you like your bike to feel…
I’m honestly not too picky. As long as I have a high feeling stem and bars I’m good to go. Other than that my bike has to be able to ride backwards, hence the freecoaster.
Do you remember your first “real” BMX bike?
Yes! GT Performer! I bought it only because I saw Dave Voelker chillin’ with sunglasses behind one in a GT Ad. The magazine was BMX Plus!, maybe 1994 or so.
Why is your left crank arm have so worn down? Looks like you have been doing some grinds on it or something…
Hahaha! I can’t believe you noticed that. I’ve been trying to learn a grind with my left crank arm. It’s only worked out a couple of times though. I’ll send you the How-To when it’s complete, haha.
How does it work out that you ride for Federal (who makes a freecoaster hub) but have a signature freecoaster hub from KHE that you helped design?
I actually got this question about 10 minutes ago. KHE approached me a couple of years ago with the idea of having a signature freecoaster and I was stoked to take the offer. Federal as well was hyped on the idea so there was no conflict between the two. As long as my name is being promoted even with another product such as KHE Freecoasters I guess they figured it would be a good thing for their company as well.
Tell us about your custom stem that says “Shola.”
A good friend of mine, Claudio from Brazil owns a bike company called Overall BMX. He was kind enough to send me as a present one of his stems that had Shola engraved on it as shown on my bike. The Stem is amazing, light, and holds very tight. He’s actually sponsoring our Shola Artist now, David Goldstein. I’m stoked to see their new frame and fork set up. Anyone interested in the Brazilian scene check out their website at overallbmx.com.br. Obrigado pelo apoio Claudio!
And speaking of Shola, how are things going for your new video project?
Couldn’t be better. Taking our sweet time and producing quality footage. I’m hoping to be done filming within two months. Copies will be made shortly after. Anyone interested in our video updates keep checking our Web site and MySpace. Thanks to everyone that’s supporting us!
