The second, and hopefully last edition of BMX Vs. Cars… This round features: Alfredo Mancuso, Big Daddy, Scotty Cranmer, Dave Mirra, Heath Pinter, James Foster, Morgan Wade, Jim Bauer, and more. If you’re into cars, come geek out.

Alfredo Mancuso
First off, what sort of car(s) do you have?
My first car was a 1978 Gold Diesel Mercedes, ever since then I’ve been hooked on German Vehicles. I then owned a 1994 325i Sedan, which I loved! After a few years I moved on to a 2002 X5 (SUV was a bad choice at that time), so I made the transition to a 1996 318Ti (hatchback) that I’m currently driving. I hope to get an E46 M3 by the end of this year.
What made that car appealing to you?
As you know, living and driving in California became unbearable at one time. I made a bad choice in purchasing an SUV at the turning point of the gas prices, when they sky became astronomically high. I quickly sold it, and was in dire need of a gas efficient vehicle. The four-cylinder engine was just the solution I needed. However it was still roomy to hold up to four bikes if taken apart and placed in a very Tetris-like fashion and still sit three comfortable.
The typical situation is: kid rides bikes, kid gets car, kid quits riding bikes…Why didn’t this happen to you?
Well, the main reasons I got a car was to one, avoid riding six miles to my local park. Two, venture out to new areas. And three, keep my brother and I from riding to school every chilly morning. Once I got the car, it did just that.
What sort of stuff are you into with the car? Drag racing, road racing, wrapping it around a pole, etc.?
Well, my younger brother is really into modding cars motor wise. He just swapped the engine in his 95 M3 to a 99 M3, so he’s definitely been getting me to look into turbo kits for my car. However, for the time being, I’m more into adding a little performance and an overall clean look and feel to the car.
What all have you done to the car?
DDM Glass Projector Headlights with Halos, HID Kit, 99 M3 Front end, M3 Mirrors, Dinan Carbon Fiber Cold Air Intake, Tein Basic Suspension Coilovers, Dual in-dash DVD Player, BBS RC 18″ black rims, carbon fiber hood, eyelids, and emblems.
Who has the best car in BMX?
I hear a certain BMX Company owner has a pretty sick Porsche. But, I personally like my brother’s 1995 Alpine White M3 with a motor swap.
Who has the fastest?
I’m sure one of Scotty’s cars can achieve the speed of sound.
Any future plans or goals?
Any shout outs/thanks/call outs for people?
[I think Alfredo fell asleep before answering the rest of the questions]

Todd @ Albe’s
First off, what sort of car(s) do you have?
2000 BMW Z-Coupe (pictured) and a 1970 BMW 2002 (all original with half as many miles as the newer car).
What made that car appealing to you?
It’s all looks. I like the lines of old European sports cars like a Jaguar E-Type or a Triumph Spitfire. And it’s one of the few cars that I can stand next to and see over the roof.
The typical situation is: kid rides bikes, kid gets car, kid quits riding bikes…Why didn’t this happen to you?
Mostly because riding is really fun…and getting a car meant that I could divide my time and do other stuff so I never got burnt out on riding. If you’re 100% into something at some point the novelty is gonna wear off and you lose interest, I think moderation is key to longevity.
What sort of stuff are you into with the car? Drag racing, road racing, wrapping it around a pole, etc.?
I drive like an old lady! The Coupe is my “every day” car so I don’t have the time to have it in the shop getting the suspension worked on because I take corners at 70mph… And in Michigan it’s illegal to have any tint on your front windows, most cops ignore it, but every once and a while I get some tough-ass trooper out to prove a point and it’ll cost me about a hundred dollars… I can’t afford that and speeding tickets, too, so I’m careful with my right foot.
What all have you done to the car?
Again, it’s more about looks than speed (not that it’s slow) so the stock set up is plenty. I added the BBS wheels and the Goodyear tires, but I’m really into music and sound quality so within the first month I had it I added a really fancy stereophonic sound system to it. Funny thing is that I’m sure the weight of all that stuff has made it a tiny bit slower. Someone once told me that my car is like headphones on wheels.
Who has the best car in BMX?
I’m not sure if he still has it but at one point Mat Hoffman had some pretty kick ass American steel.
Who has the fastest?
Whoever is concerned with that stuff and has the money to do it? I’m sure whomever I name; I’ll get called out for forgetting someone else.
Any future plans or goals?
The next thing on my list is to have some pizza for dinner…after that I’m flying by the seat of my pants.
Any shout outs/thanks/call outs for people?
All the guys at my shop (Flip, John, and the rest) can F-off for no particular reason, Eric @ Volume, you drive a douche-mobile and your girlfriend still owes me $5 for the beer she spilled on my shirt.
—————————-
Scotty Cranmer [has three cars, but not a working computer...he answered these on his phone]
First off, what sort of car(s) do you have?
Right now I have a 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX MR, a 1995 Nissan Skyline R33 GTR V-spec, and a 1996 Nissan Skyline R33 GTR.
What made that car appealing to you?
I love Japanese turbo cars both performance and looks.
The typical situation is: kid rides bikes, kid gets car, kid quits riding bikes…Why didn’t this happen to you?
I always saw it as a more fun and faster way to get to a spot.
What sort of stuff are you into with the car? Drag racing, road racing, wrapping it around a pole, etc.?
I really don’t do any racing in them; I kind of use them just for fun I just cruise town with them.
What all have you done to the car?
The Evo has coilovers, cams, alcohol injection, and a couple other bolt ons making 400whp.
Both Skylines are fully built making 500whp on pump gas and around 700whp on race gas.
Who has the best car in BMX?
The one with the GTI, haha.
Who has the fastest?
Who knows I’m out of the loop on that topic…I guess the one with the GTI again.
Any future plans or goals?
A couple of little things put the GT35r that’s on my bedroom in the silver Skyline and fix the things that will break this month.
Any shout outs/thanks/call outs for people?
Thanks to my sponsors for helping me maintain these bad boys. And to Dog Box Racing for keeping the cars in one piece.
—————————-
Christian Simmonds – Hitman Bikes
First off, what sort of car(s) do you have?
American muscle baby. Shelby CSX 4000 series Cobra continuation.
What made that car appealing to you?
Name one other car with over 100 different companies trying to copy them still to this day… Power—no one has more. Style—classic. And chicks just jump right in.
The typical situation is: kid rides bikes, kid gets car, kid quits riding bikes…Why didn’t this happen to you?
So poor as a kid, I wanted a BMX bike for eight years before I got a real one (14), so when I finally could buy myself one I never got off it.
What sort of stuff are you into with the car? Drag racing, road racing, wrapping it around a pole, etc.?
Did the pole thing very early with my first Mustang… Did open track, drag racing, and lots judged shows. Not enough adrenaline time compared to Ruben-ing a wall.
What all have you done to the car?
I designed the roll cage, side impact bar set up, specked out the 550hp 427 bb side oiler circle track race engine 7000 to 9000 shift range all day long… Real old school NASCAR four-speed trans, diff cooler, all real old school race stuff. Fuel cell, fire system, you name it…all else is built just like Carroll Shelby’s, but my color choice. 2500 lbs.
Who has the best car in BMX?
Not sure but this is the 28th COBRA (CSX4038) made in Vegas by Shelby at the skunk works in 1996 when I had it built. It only has 800 miles to date and it has doubled in value since.
Who has the fastest?
I don’t know, but this goes thru the 1/4 mile just shifting into third at over 115. This was built to Cannonball Run. 200MPH top speed with a strong tail wind. It will do 60mph in 1st, and it has a alloy flywheel so it decelerates as fast as it blast off.
Any future plans or goals?
Make the gas level gauge work, update to modern brakes (6k brake kits make a bike seem cheep) leave it for my four kids to fight over.
Any shout outs/thanks/call outs for people?
Carroll Shelby, Finish Line motorsports, and any other BMX/muscle car collectors with bloody knuckles.
—————————-
Heath Pinter
First off, what sort of cars do you have?
Old Fords are my favorite. I currently have a 1931 Ford coupe, 1941 Ford coupe, and a 1950 Ford Custom.
What made that car appealing to you?
I have always like classics and Fords are my favorite. There’s a lot of history behind old cars and it’s cool that you can take them and re-shape them into what you want.
The typical situation is: kid rides bikes, kid gets car, kid quits riding bikes… Why didn’t this happen to you?
BMX comes first; quitting because you get a car is for people who were never really down for BMX. It’s almost as bad as quitting because you get a girlfriend. I’m really into cars and build all my cars; I just work on them when I’m not riding.
What sort of stuff are you into with the car? Drag racing, road racing, wrapping it around a pole, etc.?
I like old customs, turning them into what you imagine and hope they run. Fast is cool, too. Some day I will build a fast car; for now it’s just hoping I don’t break down.
What all have you done to the car?
Ahh man too much to list… Cars take me a long time to build and almost every piece is changed or fabricated.
Who has the best car in BMX?
TJ Lavin has nice cars… TJ has great taste in cars and has a couple really nice classics. But I think Dave Dillewaard takes the cake with his Nissan Maxima.
Who has the fastest?
Probably Dave Dillewaard’s Maxima; he tinted the windows. Or Biz’s old Honda with the whistle tip.
Any future plans or goals?
Finish my 31 Ford this winter. Try to finish any of my cars…
Any shout outs/thanks/call outs for people?
All my friends who have helped me with my cars and helped tow them around. PPG, Maguire’s, Continental, Bon Speed and Troy Lee… Thanks
—————————-
Dave Mavro – Fuel TV/Red Bull
First off, what sort of car(s) do you have?
2002 VW GTI VR6 and a 2007 Audi S4 Avant.
What made that car appealing to you?
Both cars can fly under the radar, are fun to drive, and yet quite practical as well.
The typical situation is: kid rides bikes, kid gets car, kid quits riding bikes…Why didn’t this happen to you?
Kid grew up loving anything to do with wheels, kid gets bike, kid gets car, kid puts bike in car; kid goes far away—hah.
What sort of stuff are you into with the car? Drag racing, road racing, wrapping it around a pole, etc.?
I enjoy anything that pushes the limits of skill in whatever format the driver happens to be. This excludes talking/texting on a cell phone.
What all have you done to the car?
The GTi has Bilstein PSS9’s, 17″ BBS RGR’s, deleted back seat and spare, and most importantly—a tight E brake.
Who has the best car in BMX?
I’ve heard some rumors about Carlo Griggs… Stober has a sick Fox. Once Bestwick gets the Tundra engine into a Prius, he’ll be the winner.
Who has the fastest?
That would probably be Scotty Cranmer. New Jersey has never messed around when it comes to HP.
Any future plans or goals?
KW V3’s for the Avant… Coil pack for the GTi.
Any shout outs/thanks/call outs for people?
Thanks to Jim, Mike, and Ryan for sharing all the car porn—hopefully I’ll have time to hit the track soon!

Jim Bauer
First off, what sort of car(s) do you have?
2001 VW Mk4 GTI and a 1981 Porsche 911.
What made that car appealing to you?
The VW was the first new car I bought out of college. I wanted a VW Corrado, but they stopped making it, and I thought at the time I needed a new car. GTI was the best option. It didn’t hurt that it fit three bikes and three people no problem. When I moved to California I was amazed with the “time capsule” of old cars. In NY, classic cars (always a passion of mine) were rusted out in a matter of years and decades. My dads Datsun Z was rusted beyond repair when I was five years old. In California a good example of that vintage car and much older can be rust free. I was amazing to me. That’s when I started saving for a classic car. It was a 77-78 Trans Am similar to Mike’s (Aitken) or Ryan’s (Sher). Those cars are totally badass but KC Badger swayed me a different way. His Dad left him a Porsche 911 and we took it out one night in AZ. He had to drive a friends car home, so I got to drive the 911 home. Instantly hooked. I always loved Porsche’s looks and racing pedigree but they seemed so out of my range. I looked into it more and realized a good 80’s 911 was similar to Trans Am prices. The rest is history.
The typical situation is: kid rides bikes, kid gets car, kid quits riding bikes…Why didn’t this happen to you?
It was different for me. I got my license before all my friends so the car was just a way to get to better, farther away spots. No more riding 45 min to the trails. Now we could go to Races, Trails in PA, NJ, and CT etc. You can fit three bikes in an ‘87 Camaro, by the way.
What sort of stuff are you into with the car? Drag racing, road racing, wrapping it around a pole, etc.?
I have to admit I participated in the famous California “illegal street-racing scene” once. It was fun to be in a huge pack of 200 cars that randomly meet up and follow each other to races. Then cops come, arrest whomever was racing at that moment, everyone else splits, and races resume somewhere else. Cops show up, arrest whomever was racing, etc., etc. I couldn’t hang with the thought of getting arrested, so one time was enough. I have really gotten into legal road racing on real tracks now with the Porsche. The 911 is made to drive around corners—fast. Anyone could have max HP and blast a straight line, but turning is where it’s at. I love taking the car to the track; it’s the best, and reasonably priced usually. The main use though would be canyon runs. We have mountain roads here in California that rival racetracks and road courses all over the world. Nothing beats full tilt runs with a bunch of friends in the hills. One run had over 200 cars and Jay Leno was there in his Ariel Atom. Like all car brands, there is a scene the revolves around them. Low riders like chill and cruise, Hondas like drag race in the streets, Porsche owners love to meet and talk but more importantly drive around corners. That’s more my speed.
What all have you done to the car?
VW: Coilovers, wheels, intake, performance clutch and little things. It’s the daily driver, so nothing extreme. Porsche: IROC bumpers, ducktail, rocker delete, wheels, rear seat delete, harness bar, wiper reversal, brake cooling ducts, drilled rotors, racing pads, tranny rebuild, stainless headers, custom muffler, ac delete, heater delete and probably a bunch I can’t remember right now. The 911 comes pretty dialed, so most of it was cosmetic or race driven.
Who has the best car in BMX?
Finished: Heath Pinter’s Ford. Its beautiful, its originality, shows his style, and he did it all himself. Mad Props. Unfinished: Mike Aitken’s Trans Am. He is in the middle of a two-year-plus restoration, that will be awesome when it’s done. Again props for doing it himself. That’s why these guys get my votes.
Who has the fastest?
I’ve heard Rumors about Scotty’s (Cranmer) Cars. I’m sure one of his is the fastest. 700 Hp Evo I heard?
Any future plans or goals?
I want to trade the GTI in for another Porsche to drive everyday. 944 turbo? 914? 911? We will see.
Any shout outs/thanks/call outs for people?
Shout outs- Gary, Ryan (the fudge), Mike Ardelean (and our daily dozen+ emails about cars), Aitken, and anyone who will go to the track with me. Call outs- Mavro- lets see that thing out at the track! Ryan Sher for always being involved with awesome car fun. He was there when we were “street racing” and he was the pilot when I was the navigator on the Bullrun. I will let him tell that story. KC for getting me hooked on the Porsche brand. It’s a disease.

Dave Mirra
First off, what sort of car(s) do you have?
I have a BMW Dinan M3 supercharged, a 2007 Subaru Impreza WRX STI, and a 2008 Impreza WRX STI.
What made that car appealing to you?
I have always loved the feel of BMW handling and because I had the opportunity to rally last year, the Subaru’s are just a really fun all wheel drive car.
The typical situation is: kid rides bikes, kid gets car, kid quits riding bikes…Why didn’t this happen to you?
Riding was more than a hobby to me when I younger so I didn’t stress in high school to have a nice car. What it comes down to is everyone loves cars. It just depends what order you do it in. I chose to ride then explore the car world. Some go the other way. You can always get a car but you cant ride forever.
What sort of stuff are you into with the car? Drag racing, road racing, wrapping it around a pole, etc.?
I started to rally about a year ago and I love it. It’s so amazing the skills you learn and the understanding of what the car is capable of.
What all have you done to the car
The 07 STI is pretty maxed out in mods. The M3 is a full Dinan BMW. That has everything from suspension to intercooled supercharger. The 08 STI is lowered and has a down pipe.
Who has the best car in BMX?
Good question.
Who has the fastest?
It’s all in the driver.
Any future plans or goals?
Hopefully another full season of American rally.
—————————-
James Foster
First off, what sort of car(s) do you have?
Yikes… I have a 2000 Chevy Astro van, on air suspension, with all the handles, gas door and license box shaved off, a 2000 Ford F-150, a 2004 Dodge SRT-4 that I recently purchased, a 1990 Mitsubishi Galant VR-4 with a full roll cage and no motor, trans, or suspension, and a 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX with a stroked built 2.3 liter motor, built TRE transmission, roll cage, coilovers, and a Garrett GT3582RL Turbocharger, among other things.
What made that car appealing to you?
I got the van when I was into air suspension and minitrucks. It was unique, and had a lot of space for bikes and road trips and big stereos. I still like it but I’m selling it now to make space for my other cars ($4500 if anyone is interested, e-mail me).
The truck I bought a few months ago to haul my dirt bike around, and an F-150 was my first car so I like them.
The SRT-4 (Turbo Neon for those who aren’t familiar.) …I had one that I bought new back in 2004, and I’ve always had a special place for SRT-4’s in my heart since then. I had to sell it a year and a half later because I couldn’t afford it anymore at the time. I found the one I have now for a really good price, and I wanted something that was turbo and fun to drive but that I could use as a daily driver and be practical and get decent gas mileage, so I picked it up. It’s a fun car—I love it. Best bang for the buck as far as newer turbo 4 cylinders go in my opinion.
The Galant I bought a couple months ago for $600 bucks. I want to build a rallycross/hill climb/road racecar out of. The TIG-welded roll cage alone is worth $2500-$3000 so I couldn’t pass it up. It’s essentially just a shell with a cage so it’s going to be a while before I get it running.
The Eclipse… After I sold my first SRT-4, I was hooked on turbocharged cars, but I really wanted something that was all wheel drive. It’s a fully built racecar, which my intentions are to use it as a weekend warrior, drag race and road racecar. (Even though to be competitive in road racing I would have to get a smaller turbo.) I love my Eclipse. It currently makes about 400 hp on the stock cams and a smaller Turbonetics RS60T turbo and 850cc injectors, but I have a monster Garret GT3582RL turbo, Crower camshafts, and 1150cc injectors that I’ll be installing very soon. I’ve had to put off the install because I broke my ankle in Germany last October. DSM’s (Diamond star Motors=Mitsubishi, Plymouth, Eagle in the early 90’s.) are great but they require constant work to keep running. However it will be worth it, because with the new turbo setup my car should make over 500 horsepower.
The typical situation is: kid rides bikes, kid gets car, kid quits riding bikes…Why didn’t this happen to you?
For me, getting my license was one of the greatest days in my life, because it meant that I could drive more places to go riding with my friends. BMX is one of the best things in my life, and I would never give it up for anything. I love cars too, but BMX is about having fun riding and having incredible experiences with your friends.
What sort of stuff are you into with the car? Drag racing, road racing, wrapping it around a pole, etc.?
The van was for road trips and showing off, my first F-150 I got hit in the driver door by a Lincoln Navigator and rolled into oncoming traffic, my current F-150 is a workhorse/daily driver, my srt-4 is a daily driver/autocross car, my Galant sits in a shop with no motor, but will someday scream up Pikes Peak international Hill climb, and My Eclipse is a monster drag race/road race/street destroyer.
What all have you done to the car?
The van had air suspension and shaved handles, the truck has a billet grill, aftermarket headlights and an in-dash DVD player, the Galant has a roll cage and nothing else, the SRT-4 has BC coilovers, stage one ECU, 3″ turbo back exhaust, and aftermarket wheels and tires, and the Eclipse has a 2.3 stroker motor with eagle rods and Wiseco pistons and a 4G64 crankshaft, Turbonetics RS60T turbo, DNP SS manifold, Tial 38mm wastegate, TRE built Transmission, 3″ turbo back exhaust, Walbro 255lph fuel pump, Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator, FIC 850cc injectors, Tein SS coilovers, Custom Roll cage by ODR fabrication, Recaro seats, 5 point harnesses, DSMlink engine management system, and much more. And soon to be installed are my Garret GT3582RL turbo, JH racing SS manifold, Tial 44mm wastegate, FIC 1150cc injectors, and a second Walbro 255 fuel pump.
Who has the best car in BMX?
Probably Scotty Cranmer.
Who has the fastest?
I have no idea.
Any future plans or goals?
Build the Galant, and finish the Eclipse and run a sub 10.5-second quarter mile time.
Any shout outs/thanks/call outs for people?
Thanks to Bob Friend and Hummingbird Racing of Ayden, NC, for helping teach me how to use DSMlink. And to my girlfriend, for putting up with me spending all of my money on cars.
—————————-
Morgan Wade
First off, what sort of car(s) do you have?
I have a 2003 VW GTi, and a 1994 Toyota Pickup 4×4
What made that car appealing to you?
Well the first thing was the looks, I’ve always liked the way GTi look, and on top of that Volkswagen is a good dependable brand. (for most people)
The typical situation is: kid rides bikes, kid gets car, kid quits riding bikes…Why didn’t this happen to you?
In my case, kid rides bikes, kid buys truck to haul bike around, kid makes money riding bikes, now kid can afford car because of riding bikes, kid gets car, now kid can get places to ride bikes much faster!
What sort of stuff are you into with the car? Drag racing, road racing, wrapping it around a pole, etc.?
Ha…ha…ha…funny! [I just remembered that Morgan wrapped his first GTI around a pole, whoops] I like windy roads and going fast! I’m not much into racing people, but every once in a while it’s fun to make a show off in a P.O.S. rice burner look bad in front of his girlfriend!
What all have you done to the car?
Lets see, a big turbo kit, suspension, exhaust, a much better clutch, a limited slip differential, rims, tires, and a little bit of aesthetic stuff.
Who has the best car in BMX?
I’d say that Scotty Cranmer comes in a close second to my car… Hahaha, JK! No, I think Scotty’s got that one on lock! His cars are awesome!
Who has the fastest?
Again, probably Scotty…
Any future plans or goals?
To keep it running! Some day I’d like to get a 1982 Corvette Stingray! Go for that good old fashion American muscle!
Any shout outs/thanks/call outs for people?
I guess I could thank you (Ryan Fudger) for all the help over the years with my car, Jeana at Maxxis for the help with the tires, and Jim at Konig for the rims! The guys at DubSquared in Dallas For doing a great job on my clutch/LSD and the hook up! And most of all, God for keeping me alive through some of the situations I’ve put myself in with that car over the years!

i htought it was called ride bmx not ride cars
January 15th, 2009 at 4:09 pm
Just to get this out there… it’s not like you were misled into clicking this story with a photo of someone riding with a promise of a vimeo video inside. It’s about BMX riders who are also into cars—- not just cars for the sake of cars. If it’s not your thing, so be it, there’s lots of BMX for you to see otherwise.
To each their own, eh?
January 15th, 2009 at 4:20 pm
top of the line jokes right there.
idiot.
dope ass cars, good ass article.
January 15th, 2009 at 5:03 pm

January 15th, 2009 at 5:37 pm
articles like this are the best. We all know that bike riders ride bikes, i have always been more interested in what the people i look up to do outside of bikes. Be it cars, sports, art/design, music. LIFE in general.
so.. thanks ryan!

“why doesnt anyone have a man’s gti? the r32. all wheel drive, 300hp? i dont get the front wheel 1.8 crap but to each thier own” -caddyguy
First of all, I really really wanted to get the Mark IV R32 when I was looking for my car, but I didn’t exactly have $30,000.00 bucks to throw into a new car at the time! Second, the all wheel drive does make me drool, but the R’s don’t have 300hp stock. It’s more like 220hp. If you’re trying to get 300+ out of that car you’ve got to put a turbo kit on it. I don’t know if you’ve looked into it, but turbo kits for the V6 engine “start” up in the $6,000-$7,000 range. That’s a lot of money for a guy like me! Finally, the 1.8T’s are more than capable of 300-400hp with the right setup, and I guarantee it’s no where near what you’d pay to get the R32 up into that range! So I guess it all boils down to, “More bang for your buck”! And yes, I would have a Mark IV R32 in a heart beat if I could afford it! It’s definitely on my “Cars to own someday” list!
By the way, the kind of car you drive has absolutely nothing to do with how much of a “Man” you are!
I think this article was an awesome idea Fudger!
January 15th, 2009 at 7:50 pm
Morgan is right. You can pick up a 1.8t gti for a decent price, add mods to make it faster than a R32 and still have money left over. 1.8 are the cheapest and easiest motors to mod out of the gti’s.
January 15th, 2009 at 9:14 pm
Completely agree with that. I always want to know more shit about my favorite riders, outside of what kind of seatpost they use or how long it took them to learn to tailwhip. Makes BMX a hell of a lot more interesting. Nice work, Ryan.

well mr wade, i did some research and you are right-ish. they have 250hp, not 220 but, price is right rules say im wrong and you were way closer. so i am sorry for that. 2nd im well aware that a car doesnt make you a big “man” or whatever. i had a piece of shit escort for a long time and i got lots of chicks. not that that makes you a big “man” either but it helps. sorry for the misunderstanding. 3rd that is a lot of cash but there is a thing called a used car lot. spend 5 to 10k less for a 1 or 2 year old model with a great warrenty and theres your turbo kit. so basically, by “mans car” i meant the top of the line model of that body style. kinda like a gli is to a regular jetta. or bora to you import nazis. so my bad on the horsepower rating, and the misunderstanding. and ps simmonds’s cobra is bad ass and hes got a big kids version of a model car display case. thats rad!
January 16th, 2009 at 1:50 am
That ’s cool man, I was just letting you know why so many of us drive as you say “front wheel 1.8 crap”. On the hp thing… If you go to http://www.vwvortex.com and look up DYNO charts on stock R32’s (there are plenty on there) they produce 220hp… I’ve done a lot of research/drooling on them over the years. =) At the point when I bought my 1.8T it was early 2005, R32’s weren’t even a year old yet and there were not many at used car lots (if any) for much less than the cost of a brand new one, which was $30k… On top of that the budget that I had at the time for a car was half that… So even if I could have gotten a sweet deal for an R back then, it still would have been way out of my range. Please keep in mind that in no way am I trying to start anything here or give the impression that I think I’m an expert on cars. I’m just letting you know the angle I’m looking at it from and where I got my information. =)
One more side note. If you do anything after market, like a turbo kit, to the engine of a VW, you’ll void the factory warranty. Just something to keep in mind If you’re thinking about doing it. =)
January 16th, 2009 at 3:07 am
Morgan, sign up for an account so I can kook you. Aren’t you in Estonia?
R32’s are sweet. And they hold their value well; finding one for under 20k these days is still hard. Putting power through the Haldex is also another hurdle. But, they’re still sweet and I’d take a Stingray (with equal, or more, horsepower) over any form of a GTI any day. Glad folks are enjoying the article…hopefully I don’t get enough e-mails for a Part Three! Over it!

January 16th, 2009 at 1:22 pm
Wow, this car talks getting pretty heavy. Big Daddy, shave your line beard and lay off the roids.

Big-Daddy would kick your ass and shred your face off.
January 16th, 2009 at 1:58 pm
i know that the hp rating that factory gives you is from the fly wheel, rather than from the brakes over in the uk or wheels like on a chassis dyno. so vw’s 250 is really like 220 like you said. i was really trying to make a smart ass comment about the used car lots and since i didnt know when you were searching then i didnt know if there were any used r32’s. but i have driven in a vr6 gti, and that a torquey little monster. i didnt call the 1.8 front drives crap, i just prefer all wheel or rear wheel. so im not a hater in anyway just to clear that up. a cool car is a cool car no matter the make model or year. that does include the gti.
January 16th, 2009 at 2:05 pm
What about my 2000 Ford Ranger, its got a missing hub cap and it does 0-60 in 10.75 seconds, come on Morgan, let’s do this.

January 16th, 2009 at 3:40 pm
i agree! fudger you gotta do a part 3 or do a monthly update for when guys get new cars or wreck em…morgan. just kidding on that one. its a nice break from tailwhip videos and gives a look into what the riders do when not riding.
January 16th, 2009 at 4:23 pm
Man, to think I still am pedaling a little kids bike for transportation. I just pick up chicks and give em a pump on my handlebars…
January 16th, 2009 at 4:49 pm
I thought we were all a little kooked Ryan. Isn’t that the name of the game? =P
Yeah I’m in Estonia and the corse has no good quarter pipes… Bummed… =( When are you coming to Texas?
By the way, I 100% agree on the Corvette option! I’ve had an 82 Stingray on my wish list for some time now! =P

Mr.Wade, You have no idea how stoked I am that you’re into the VWVortex. I would have to assume that you know most of us from Toronto down to about the bottom of Jersey are hooked on dubs. (that might be a slight exageration). If you ever get a chance, Heaton is an addict like me. And if you’ve watched the video passed around the tex, you’ll know it’s been finalized that the 1.8T is the more tunable and much more reasonable machine, end of story.
On that note, anyone want to buy a 1977 Porsche 924 with 30K.
And dont bump.
January 27th, 2009 at 2:13 pm
How do these guys afford multiple high performance vehicles, but somehow never manage to have health insurance? I couldn’t buy hardly any of those cars, and I have a great job. Does BMX pay more than people let on…..”pro” riders living at home with no bills still? Hmmm…..
