Can you spot the spray paint?
Which parts do you go through the most?
Tubes and spokes.
Describe your bike setup and how you like your bike to feel…
Solid, and this month, bars high. I usually try to change something kind of drastic to the setup at least once a year. Whether it’s flipping the stem over, slamming the post, running something narrow, or something lofty. Just mixing it up helps keep things fresh and changes up the tricks a bit.
What part are you most particular about or do you feel makes the biggest difference on your bike?
Handlebars.
Do you remember your first “real” BMX bike?
Yeah, I put it on layaway and it was custom built by the local shop. I actually found out later it wasn’t actually a full freestyle bike, it was a Redline race frame with pegs and chrome everything with a sweet blue S&M Redneck stem with matching blue ODI grips. It was so sweet I could taste it every time I paid down with my allowance money, haha.
Since you ride park, vert, street, and dirt, are you particular about the PSI you run for any/all of those?
I try to keep it right about 100. I’ll take a little out to about 85-90 for longer street sesh days though.
Which kind of shoes do you ride, and why do you pick that model out of all the Nike 6.0 options?
The Air Insurgents are my favorite to ride in. They have the stiffest sole and a lot of protection around the toe for foot jams and when you accidentally kick stuff.
Out of all the Maxxis tires, why do you choose to run the foldable Grifters?
The Grifters are seriously the best tires I’ve ran in a while, and I’m not saying that just because I ride for Maxxis, haha. They’re foldable, but durable, and have just enough tread to help out on dirt, but that you don’t feel it at all when riding street, park, and vert. They are really smooth and I’ve never blown one out.

It’s good to watch his career. I rode with him for a year or two at RSA (Pharside 714) in Costa Mesa, CA. He knows. And Cody Duszinski (spelling?), Wayne Todd, John Parker (not THAT John Parker, but he still killed it). Even then (2000-ish) it was fun to watch Austing.
