Jeff Z.

Somewhere between obsessing over the fine Swedish machinery of the 1980s era Volvos and finding the best new spot to ride for the most epic tricks to be photographed, lies Jeff Z. Part human navigational system and part photographic visionary, he is the go to guy if you want to shoot some polished BMX photos. Hands down, the most prepared person to ride or shoot with, a bonafide “BMX Boy Scout” if you will. But don’t ask him where the nearest MacDonald’s is because he is a level five vegan. Here are some examples of what he carries at all times in his car: half of the B&H catalog ready to be carried on his back, extra tires and tubes, safety pins, hedge clippers, orange Tic-Tacs, Kleenex, etc. Because he knows that whether it’s a flat tire, ripped jeans, an overgrown bush, or some funky breathe, the most random things can prevent a rider from pulling their trick and from Jeff walking away with another incredible photo. You can call him obsessive, crazy, over-prepared, or just call him the Associate Editor/Photo Editor at Ride BMX.

So many articles, so many photos, sometimes it gets pretty difficult for us to decide which ones make the cut for the pages of Ride. Here are ten riding photos that Jeff Zielinski shot while working on some of the articles you’ve seen in Ride over the last few issues.

Adam Baker made the trek from Prescott, Arizona, to sample some Northeast trials and hang with a bunch of riders he usually only sees at the dirt jumping comps. When Adam wasn’t talking about intelligence or Bukowski novels he was clicking opposite lookbacks and x-ups over any jump he felt compelled to.

Straight outta Nova Scotia via Woodward East, Drew Bezanson was on board for the first filming trip for Ride’s Range Of Motion. Drew had wild tech tricks that would take most riders a whole Canadian winter to dial in—and he was a big fan of hips to the left, too.

Fifteen years is a long time in the action sports world, especially when it comes to BMX. Enduring the test of time along with numerous trials and tribulations, the one and only King of New York® will be celebrating its 15th year in 2009, going down on Saturday August 8th and Sunday August 9th, this time in Manhattan and the Bronx. Check the attached flyer and spread the word.\r\n\r\nThe economy didn’t spare the King of New York either, leaving it with no sponsorship money, and so the main comp this year has turned into a jam instead. No sponsors. No money. So what? Jeremiah Smith, the reigning King of New York says, “It’s all good. I’m still coming out to ride with Jorge and everyone.” Daniel Dhers says, “I absolutely hated driving in NYC but I had a blast riding at the King of New York.”\r\n\r\nThe King of New York website (www.kingofnewyorkbmx.com) is almost completely updated so check it out. August 8 will be flatland and street jams at Tompkins Square Park. Tompkins is on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, at Avenue A and 10th Street. Then the fun moves up to the Bronx on Sunday August 9, with a ramp jam at the NYC’s oldest ramp park, Mullaly Park. Mullaly is at 164th Street and River Avenue, a brick’s throw from the new Yankee Stadium.\r\n\r\n
