Name: Jeff Zielinski
Age: 29
Location: Long Beach, California
Years Shooting: 12 years
List three photographers who have influenced you.
Not so much three individuals, but more like a lot of photographers in three industries—skateboarding, BMX, and commercial/fashion.
What's your favorite piece of photo equipment you ever bought?
Hasselblad Xpan.
What's one piece of photo equipment you yearn to own?
An Olympus Pen-F half-frame camera that doesn't shoot soft photos—like mine does. Something far fetched is a Hasselblad H3D and a complete Profoto studio kit.
How much does your bag/bags weigh (for a typical trip/shoot)?
I always bring two bags, the big guy is 52 lbs. and the small guy is 25 ½ lbs.
What's one piece of equipment that's essential to your work?
Batteries.
Five favorite pros/riders to shoot with.
All of the riders I grew up with in New Jersey and New York. Because I think that even if someone shot the best BMX photos in the world, without cooperative talent they wouldn't be able to get too far, so I thank those guys for giving me the chance to hone my photographic skills with them. Besides them, my definitive list would be something like; Grimaldo Duran, The Gonz, Matt Beringer, Josh Heino, Jim Cielencki, and Josh Stricker.
Five favorite non-BMX subjects to shoot.
Portraits, travel, commercial, city/landscapes, and party photos.
List three publications you'd love to print your photography.
W, Intersection, and get my own coffee table style photo book published.
What's the oddest or most random thing in your camera bag?
Mace.
