Imagine having the ability to walk down a warehouse of parts and choose any and every single part you wanted on your bike. No worries about cost and no worries about color choices, just pick what you want and run with it. Mark Flipowicz…better known as Flip @ Albe’s has the ability to do just that.
Frame: DK Kachinsky 20.1″ top tube
Fork: Odyssey F/S with brake mounts
Bars: Odyssey Civilian 7.75″
Grips: Shadow Lil’ Dirty
Headset: Impact
Seat post Clamp: Built in
Seat post: Premium?
Seat: Premium
Cranks: Madera 175mm with Ti Spindle
Sprocket: Profile Imperial
Chain: KMC 710SL
Brakes: Dia-Tech Hombre…they are cheap and lock up my wheel when i want them to.
Cables: Odyssey / SST
Brake Lever: Odyssey M2 rear and Monolever front. Both are the medium size.
Front Tire: KHE 2.1″ park
Front Wheel: Madera hub laced to a Primo Balance 7000 with Ti Spokes
Rear Tire: KHE 2.1″ Street
Rear Wheel: KHE Geisha Lite laced to a Primo Balance with half Ti spokes and half stainless steel spokes
Pegs: Odyssey J-Peg Lighters on the normal grind side and Kink Aluminum on the other side.
Pedals: Wellgo G52 magnesium
Stem: Profile 48mm with Ti bolts
Weight: Even with 4 pegs, front brakes and a gyro it is right around 24 lbs.
Modifications:
The only real mod is the fancy spoke set up on the rear wheel. Turbo (Albe’s wheel builder) laced the inside spokes with Ti and the outside with stainless steel ones. Keeps things light yet still pretty tough. Since only the inside spokes are Ti i’m not afraid to gring cement ledges and shit.
First off, explain why you had to put together a new bike?
At the last stop of the Dew Tour in Orlando (Oct 08′) Anthony Napolitan, Nick Stebben and myself all had our bikes stolen out of the “bike room” that is guarded by a rent a cop. He was doing a great job!
So did you get to pick your personal cream-of-the-crop of parts?
My new bike is very much like my old bike. Since i was started fresh i did make a few changes that i figured would make it sweeter. Ti spokes, Ti stem hardware, taller bars and different levers were the only real changes. i would have LOVED to have the same levers but i can’t seem to find a pair of Dragonfly levers anywhere. If you have some you want to part with e-mail flip@albes.com.
What are those things on the front of your forks and why the hell do you have two brake levers?
Hahaha! you’ll learn soon when it’s “cool” again someday.
When was the last time you did a 540 tailtap-to-nosepick-fakie? What about a rocket 360?
Hahaha! funny thing is i did both in the last week. befor that probably 6 or 7 years on the rocket 360.
Tell us a Mike Spinner story.
Oh man…I have a good one but it’s probably not fit for the public. However next time you see him ask him about the “gift” he got on Megatour and what happened when he tried to take it on a plane.
When is the next Albe’s trip? Can I come, and can we robot-nap Todd?
Seems like trips are Bi-weekly these days. Yes..you can come if you bring a camera and plan to shoot photos of stuff more than BMX. Todd will self destruct if removed from inside the wall of Albe’s.
Anyone you’d like to thank or add?
For sure. Thanks to Jessetrevorfish at System, Bobby and Chris at Blackout, Nate Moroshan at Primo and my guys at Albe’s for hooking me up with stuff to build my bike when it was stolen. Getting a bike stolen SUCKS and all those people made it easy to get me rolling again.
