What part takes the most abuse?
My left pedal. I have been playing around with a new trick I call the “superbike slide.” I lay my bike down flat and it grinds through the end of the pedal really fast.
Cork bar ends?
I was opening a bottle of wine and the idea hit that they would make great bar ends. I mainly thought it would be funny to have to take them out with a wine bottle opener.
Why do you prefer narrow bars?
I have always ran them and I love squeezing my way through tight obstacles.
Explain the random things you use to hold down your brake cable.
Whenever I see random strings, wires, or scraps of stuff I tie them to the frame. I guess it’s like a collection of things.
What is the oldest part on your bike?
My brakes are nine years old. They are Tek-Tro, I think I got them from an old Specialized Fatboy. Nobody believes me, but they are the same pads too, they must have hardened or something over the years. When they finally fall off I will then be brakeless, I have vowed not to replace them.
Describe your front wheel.
It’s an original 14mm Odyssey Hazard. My friend Nick gave it to me when the big Vandero hub craze began. I painted it neon green and haven’t touched it since. Because it makes God awful noises, sometimes, a lot of people threaten to steal and destroy it. I vowed not to replace it until it falls off and rolls off into the sunset.
Here is Tate’s part from the 50/50 DVD, “That’s It”.
