Describe your bike setup and how you like your bike to feel…
Well, right now it has no brakes, a bit run down, and I like to feel nice and solid—no noise at all.
Talk about going brakeless…
I was just not sure how I could be brakeless full time, cause I pulled my brakes every time my wheels left the ground. I just recently got back from a trip and I needed to put new cables on, but I was about to build a new bike soon, so I was like, “Well I will ride brakeless ’till then.” I rode for about a week until the new bike came and I couldn’t do it—the bike just looked and felt too good without them on. Also, what kind of helped is that I tried to get new brakes for the bike, but they never came. I have always loved the look and feel since the Gonz and McMurray days when I was growing up and everyone I ride with now is brakeless, so it was bound to happen!
How do you think the brakeless thing will affect you at contests? Seems hectic enough with them, you know?
Very true… It will be crazy for sure! I think it will open up new doors for me really—not doing the same thing I always did. And I don’t care about how I do really in the contests; I’m just psyched if I pull most things in it, haha.
What about any, “Awww, you gave in” type thing from anyone? What do you think of brakeless riding being a trend of sorts?
Haha, yeah I have had a few people give it to me, but it was worth it. It definitely seems to be the trendy thing right now, but I guess if people are having fun with it, it’s cool.)
…its to soon to say that they will never come back cause I may get tired of this and try them out again, but as of right now I don’t see them going back on anytime soon.
Care to explain why your bike is so dirty in these photos?
I was doing a bit of mud slinging, trying to 180 this dirt jump that had this really cool setup. You had to jump over a tree branch that had like an elbow in it. So 180ing it would have been really cool cause it had just enough space to fit through it. To bad I didn’t pull it, maybe another time.
Are you the type to clean your bike, or leave it dirty?
Well, my bike is normally not this filthy. I keep it pretty clean most of the time. This is a rare condition for my bike to be in.
Do you work on your bike a lot?
I don’t work on it a whole lot; just paint it a good bit.
How often do you go through…
Frames? I get a new frame a lot because I have to ride the sample ones, then I get another one when the production ones come out. Spoiled I know, haha…
Wheels? I try to change it up a lot so about every six months or so.
Cranks? About the same as wheels.
Tires? About every 3 months or so.
Pegs? Back in the day…never! I just got a set of new United ones and they are holding up good. I predict after rotating the back one I’d need another in about 3 months. Front should be ok for a while.
