The first time I went to Philadelphia was with Ralph Sinisi and my friend Joe Milioti in 1997. Ralph borrowed his parent’s station wagon—it was one of those wagons with the fake wood panels on the sides—it was the stereotypical family vehicle and we probably looked like a dysfunctional one while we were driving around in it loaded with bikes. I think we only rode FDR on that first trip, but weekend trips down to Philly became pretty common shortly after that and by the time Animal was starting in late 1999-early 2000 we were going down there to ride and film on the regular and I managed to squeeze in some photos, too. Eventually I moved out to California to work for RideBMX, but I still managed to make my way back to Philly pretty often. These photos aren’t an all encompassing collection from the RideBMX archive, but an assortment of 50 that I’ve personally shot in Philadelphia from 1999—before I even worked for Ride—to the present. Needless to say, there’s a lot of history here, that you may or may not be aware of, so I hope you enjoy them. —Jeff Z.
