With the significant head injuries that BMX has seen over the past five years or so, helmets have become an increasingly bigger issue. Bell has really stepped up on the BMX side of things, with Allan Cooke assembling the BMX program around their new helmet–the Segment. The Segment aims to maintain the comforts of soft foam helmets with the safety of hard foam helmets. The hard foam is crucial in slowing the impact then the head hits the ground–soft foam is essentially useless in slowing down a head hit.
The new Bell Segment utilizes a series of interior EPS foam segments connected by a reinforcing skeleton, allowing the helmet to flex and conform to your head while still meeting safety standards–including the ASTM F2032 BMX enhancement.
