This design has been with Felt since 2003 and works well in many applications. Simple, light, and surprisingly strong. Originally there was a 10mm thick “Jetson,” a 7mm thick “Cogswell,” and the race version 5mm thick “Spacely” that came in 44t. As the years went by, the thicker versions were killed and turned the race chainring into today’s 25t Felt Spacely.
What were your goals when designing this product?
Design came from our creative guy’s Brabus wheels on his car.

What were your goals when designing this product?
This idea and design came from Josh Betley and I sitting at Interbike last year working with a supplier trying to get a spline drive chainring on a complete bike. When using aluminum and spline drive you have to go with 7075 aluminum with a hardened insert and it gets really expensive for a complete. This turned into a conversation about laser cut 4mm thick cr-mo that is much more affordable and we ordered some samples. Josh has had one on his bike for several months and you will see them on our 2012 Pyre model that will be available soon.

I think I should bring up a point many may be thinking…Felt and Tree Bicycles have two very similar designs. We are not copying each other. This is how it works sometimes in BMX—a 25t gear can only be made so many ways, and each of us are doing our thing, and I assume just crossed paths on two similar designs. I think Tree makes tons of good products.
