The Gauntlet Of Death, Dragon Slayer Best Trick, Leap Frog Beard bunnyhop contest, rail and Shadow grind box best trick, and dirt qualifying… Whew! What a long hot day, but damn it was fun. Starting the day off with the challenging, yet fun Gauntlet had everyone smiling. Scotty Cranmer was the first to make it through, then about 20 minutes later Gary Young finished it super smoothly, followed by Jake Seeley—who threw up once he finished! Yeah, it was really, really hot.
The Dragon Slayer best trick consisted of a huge obstacle painted like a dragon. One end had a drop into a bank (Euro gap) and the other end had a step up, the top was basically a manual pad. That session was pretty nuts, but in the end Scotty Cranmer won that too.
Contestants in the Failure’s Leap Frog Beard bunnyhop contest were supposed to wear beards because Failure’s Matt Bischoff has one hell of a beard. Eventually the beards were no longer required because it was too damn hot to wear them and the height pole was getting so high that nobody really wanted to deal with a damn fake beard. Broc Raiford and Gabe Brooks went head to head at 49 inches, but Gabe would clear it and loop out, and Brocstomped on his landing and took home the win.
Next up was the rail and Shadow grind box best trick, the rail had a half crank runway and it’s tall and steep, so not much went down on it, instead the focus of the action was on the Shadow grind box. Dan Foley got best trick with a manual up, barspin, to manual back down the grind box.
Dirt wrapped the day up and Austin local hero Chase Hawk qualified first with super smooth runs full of height, style, and a tailwhip, too. The entire dirt qualifying list is below…
