2009 Harborshred Recap & Photo Gallery

The first-ever Harborshred contest in upstate New York went down last weekend and a handful of well-known pros were there to throw down some serious moves. Check out this photo gallery and a quick recap from Brian Hunt to see what you missed out on.

Despite having many setbacks, Harborshred was in full effect on Saturday July 25th and there was no shortage of fun. I think this contest was a perfect example of riders coming to contest just to hang out, get wild, and have some fun. The ramps aren’t perfect, there’s no box jump, and Oswego isn’t exactly known for BMX. With all that being said I think my heart stopped at least 10 times during this contest from dudes sending it for just for the glory. There was an amazing mix of big tricks, dialed technical moves, and some bangers. Ronnie Napolitan took 1st with tons of dialed moves including a perfect 630 over a hip and three-whip transfer over the fence of death. Chris Childs went fast and high with tons of style to take home 2nd place. Joel Barnett was the only rider wallriding the two-foot curved ledge and got 3rd place doing a bit of everything—grinds, airs, and tech all over the place. The stand out moment for me was Coty who somehow survived a huge flip transfer over off a five-foot quarter to stomach stall on a chain link fence. He broke the fence but I was so excited to see him walk away. All in all it was an amazing time and just what BMX should be, people coming out to have fun and send it with their friends. I really look forward to another fun event next year.

You know as much as I wanted to contest to be all it was hyped to be (before we got the rug yanked out from under us), we did prove to local kids that anything is possible.  My local park kids probably had one of the best times of their lives. We also showed that even though the ramps really are just a small town park, riders are going to find tricks and lines no matter where they are riding. We saw some seriously crazy stuff even without a box jump or a vert wall. Guess it goes to show that riding really is just about having fun and being creative and making use of whatever obstacles you can dig up, hammer together or find on the street.  - Susan Linderode, Harborshred Organizer
