The first day of the four-day series in Huntington Beach has come to a close, and to no surprise Daniel Dhers came out on top this afternoon. Check out our quick recap along with today’s results, then watch the video and prepare yourself for three more days of madness that is to come from the first ever Nike 6.0 HB BMX Pro.

Besides what’s in this video below, all you really need to know about today is that Huntington Beach is home to a lot of beautiful women. A LOT. I overheard several people saying that all BMX contests need to take place on the beach. When I wasn’t concentrating on hot chicks in bikinis in the crowd, this is what else I noted from today: (Don’t worry, hot chick photo gallery coming soon!)

- The two 45-second runs seemed a bit short on such a massive course. I think a few people would have done better if they had 60 second runs (Craig Mast, Josh Perry…)
- As I mention in the video, I’m very curious to see how the next three days of competition will pan out as far as lines and runs. Most of these guys pick a line and a run and stick to it for both of their runs of the contest. So what will happen when they ride tomorrow? And the next day? And the next? Will they all do the same lines and similar tricks? Only time will tell…
- I missed the video clip, but Mike Fede did a sweet barspin drop into the big wedge from the mini section. (Sorry Mike, I’ll get it tomorrow!)
- Matt Sparks went way too high on a flair and is one of the happiest dudes on the course.
- Trey Jones likes to flow around and isn’t really into the “contest-type” of tricks. He also wears really big tank tops.
- Chase Hawk is just about everyone pro’s favorite rider to watch on the course.
- Ben Snowden flowed back and fourth around the course like it was trails with really unique lines.
- Nicholi Rogatkin has lots of big tricks, but because his bike is so small it is hard for him to get as high as the others. He was riding really well in practice, but had a bad crash on a whip transfer in his first run.
- Dennis Enarson did a superman seatgrab barspin, bobbled the bars, and somehow got back on it, narrowly escaping death. Kinda scary.
- Diogo Canina is riding brakeless and padless, and looks really smooth.
- Scotty Cranmer was on his game today, but in both runs a huge 360 whip over the long box stopped his flow. (Chicago-bars on one, and crash on another.)
- Rob Darden killed the long box, but unfortunately that’s the hardest thing on the course to film…
- Andy Buckworth is definitely a new one to watch out for. The 19 year old Australian is so good and has super creative tricks.
- Garrett Reynolds is like watching a video game. Everything he does looks effortless. And he is non-stop, back-to-back… But you didn’t need me to tell you that.
- Mike Spinner did a 1080, triple whip, and a bunch of other bangers. However, I always wonder why he doesn’t do 720 whips in contests. I also wonder why he opted to do a whip to tap today instead of a flair…
- When Daniel Dhers is healthy and having a good day (which is most days), he is unstoppable. Period. Hopefully Daniel unleashes a new trick this weekend…I really want to see the stuff he’s been working on that hasn’t been seen in public yet.
