2008 Dew Tour

Salt Lake City, Utah

We’re in beautiful Salt Lake City, Utah, for the latest round of Dew Tour craziness and today wasn’t a letdown.

VERT

Vert Prelims kicked off the competition with Jimmy Walker taking the top qualifying spot. Jimmy’s runs included x-ups-to-turndowns, table seatgrabs, 540s, a seatgrab 540, a barspin 540, flairs (opposite and regular), no-handers-to-turndowns, and lots more variations all over the ramp.

Steve McCann and Dennis McCoy also threw down solid runs with Stevie doing a no-handed flair, a double tailwhip, an alley-oop tailwhip, a candybar and more. DMC’s runs had solid 540s (one of them a barspin 540), flairs, barspin-to-x-ups and barspins-to-barspin, candybars, and some solid inverted tables.

There were lots of crashes on the big ramp which kept guys like Koji Kraft and Kevin Robinson out of the finals, but luckily there were no serious injuries.

Vert Finals go down tomorrow (Friday) night.

DIRT

The dirt course was awesome as could be expected. Lots of huge step-up sets with huge steep landings, and there are plenty of hips as well.

Dennis Enarson put on a show in his first run with a tailwhip, a barspin-to-no-hander, a flipwhip, a flip, a double tailwhip, and a barspin-to-tailwhip.

SLC local, MIke Aitken had everyone shaking their heads and asking “What was that” after every set. Mikey’s 360 combo variations are almost too difficult to comprehend and it all was smooth and pretty. Let’s just say that during his 360s nac-nacs, lookbacks, can-cans, one-footed inverts and downside tables (amongst other variations) went down. There were also some stretched nothings-to-no-footed can-cans and to-turndowns. Most fun to watch, in my opinion.

Ryan Guettler rounded out the top three with double tailwhips, a 720, some 360s, and what looked like an Indian air flip with some wild leg action thrown into the mix.

Dirt Finals also go down tomorrow (Friday) night.
