Fads in BMX, Mirraco, coaster-brakes, pets, old parts… These topics and more all answered by Dave Mirra. We were able to squeeze in a ton of questions into the magazine, but what didn’t fit there, you’ll find right here.
Q. I know these are supposed to be questions, but what I really wanted to say is thank you. You are the reason that I got back into BMX about seven years ago and I haven’t looked back since. Now I’m 33 and still loving that little 20′ bike. Ok so a question… does it blow you away to think back when you were little doing 180s off curbs that freestyle would be where it is now?
-Paul
A. Hey Paul, that’s really cool you are still riding at 33 years old and haven’t looked back. I really am amazed with the progression over the years. It’s totally weird thinking that BMX was just something we did for fun and now it’s a lifestyle/living—pretty crazy.
Q. What are the first five things you think of when I say coaster-brake?
-Rob Q.
A. The first five things that come to mind are: Rick Moliterno, Ron Wilkerson, cherry picker, pedal picker, abubaca.

Q. What’s the worst fad in BMX you have followed?
-Lucas
A. I haven’t followed this one, but the worst fad I’ve seen is the dudes wearing girl’s pants. Come on guys.
Q. In my opinion, your riding style has progressed a lot since the late ’90s. Have you focused on being a smoother rider or is it just because you ride four-to-six hours a day?
-Drey
A. Thanks a lot. Having an amazing warehouse to ride everyday has helped so much. I don’t ride six, but I can do four hours a day. Seriously, I have never had a warehouse that had a little bit of everything. At the end of the day, that is the reason my riding probably looks more well rounded.
Q. Would you rather have a pit-bull or a pug? Don’t be stupid.
xoxo -Jace.
PS, I love you.
A. I have two yorkies, Rocky and Rex and they are the coolest.
Q. Do you have plans to come to Brazil one day?
-Damata
A. I would love to. I hear so much about Brazil and how beautiful it is. Maybe soon.
Q. Do you see your self as the Messiah, or the chosen one of BMX?
-James
A. Good question. Can I use one of my life lines? That’s my final answer.Q. When you get new parts or change your bike up what do you do with your old parts and frames? Do you have a garage full of parts?
-Nate
A. I usually hook my friends up when they break something. I wouldn’t call it a garage full of parts, but I have a bike and some spare parts just in case something breaks.
Q. Why don’t you guys on Mirraco make the Chocolate frame in 20.5′ or smaller? It’s a total bummer for small guys like me.
-El Sergio
A. The Chocolate frame is designed around what Nigel Sylvester wanted. It’s so hard to offer every frame in every size. Sorry.
Q. What are some new tricks you’re working on for 2008?
-Eddie
A. To be honest, I really haven’t worked on anything spectacular for ‘08. My goal is to dial in what I have and hit all the major events this year.
Q. How old were you when you first started riding?
-Dale
A. I started riding pretty much when I learned how to ride a bike. I know that sounds vague, but I have literally been riding since I was like four years old. I raced at ten and started competing in flatland contest when I was 13.
Q. What’s your opinion on the ten-person invite at X Games?
-Jason
A. I don’t necessarily agree with it, but I’m not on the committee so I try not to bitch about what they decide. I guess I look at it like, if you’re one of the ten then you should feel really honored to be apart of the X Games.
Q. If you could only save one in a flood would it be the 400hp BMW M3, the $100,000 AMG G-Wagon or the 550hp Rally ready STI?
-Allan
A. Is this who I think this is? I really like all three, so that would be a tough choice. I guess whatever one has the best insurance value.
Q. Why did you decide to start your own company?
-Zack
A. I started Mirraco because my Haro deal was up and I had a great opportunity to start my own company. The timing just seemed right, so I went for it.
